National Negotiating Bulletin #1
October 7, 2006
Your negotiating committee met with CP Rail for four days during the week of October 2nd to the 6th. During this session the Company and Union began explaining the various demands to each other. At this point about one third of the issues have been discussed at least once. This is an important step in the process that allows both sides to discuss what the demands specifically mean so that both sides are fully aware of the others intentions. We presently have scheduled three more bargaining sessions before the end of this year.
In our travels around the country this year many people asked questions on how they can help us out during negotiations. We very much appreciate these offers for help. The help we need during this round of collective bargaining will be in the form of information. We will be sending requests our through your Local Chairs for information on various issues. We appreciate and hope that you involve yourself in the negotiation process by providing the information requested in a timely manner.
Remember this is YOUR contract and YOUR negotiating team is working for the members’ collective best interests. Please take an active role by supplying your Local Chairs with any requested information.
We continue to thank all of the members for your patience and ongoing support throughout the negotiations process.
Remember, our negotiated settlement will be in Contract Language and will not be in effect unless the Members support it through a ratification vote.
In solidarity,
Your TCRC CPR bargaining committee
